Roaming Heat started in the heart of Devon after years of travelling and experiencing traditional saunas across Scandinavia. We fell in love with the ritual, the community, and the incredible health benefits. Returning to the UK, we couldn't find this authentic experience anywhere, so we built it ourselves.
What began as a passion project for friends and family quickly became something special. After countless evenings watching the sun set over Devon hills from our handcrafted barrel sauna, we knew we had to share this magic. Our mobile sauna brings the authentic Finnish experience to your location - whether that's your garden, a wild Devon landscape, or your special event.
Each sauna is handcrafted from sustainably sourced timber, featuring traditional wood-fired heating. Seats up to 6 people comfortably, reaching optimal temperatures of 70-90°C. We personally deliver, set up, and ensure you're confident before your first session.

Our team delivers the sauna to your location and handles complete setup. We'll position it perfectly in your garden, driveway, or chosen spot. Setup takes just 30 minutes.
We provide full instructions on lighting and maintaining the wood-fired stove. The sauna reaches optimal temperature (80°C) in approximately 45-60 minutes. Sustainably sourced wood included.

Everything You Need to Know
Absolutely! Safety is our top priority. Each sauna comes with comprehensive safety equipment including a fire extinguisher, carbon monoxide detector, and detailed safety instructions. We provide a full briefing during setup, covering proper wood-burning techniques, ventilation, and usage guidelines. Our saunas are built to strict safety standards and are covered by our liability insurance. We require a 2-meter clearance from buildings and proper ventilation during use.
Children aged 12 and above can use the sauna with adult supervision. We recommend shorter sessions (5-10 minutes) and lower temperatures for younger users. Children should be closely monitored at all times. Pregnant women, people with heart conditions, or those with medical concerns should consult their GP before using a sauna.
We recommend booking at least 2-3 weeks in advance, especially for weekend dates during peak season (April-September). However, we can often accommodate last-minute bookings subject to availability. For events and weddings, we suggest booking 2-3 months ahead. Check our live availability calendar for real-time booking slots.
Bring towels for sitting on and drying off, plenty of water for hydration, and swimwear (though private use allows for traditional Finnish nude bathing if preferred). We recommend having a cold shower or outdoor cooling area nearby. Optional extras include slippers and refreshments. Our premium packages include aromatherapy oils.
We offer free delivery within 15 miles of our Devon base. Beyond 15 miles, it's just £2 per mile for delivery and collection. We regularly cover all of Devon, Cornwall, and Somerset. Extended range available for longer hires or special events - just get in touch for a quote!
The sauna is fully weatherproof and designed for outdoor use in all conditions! In fact, many people find the contrast between hot sauna and cool rain absolutely exhilarating - it's a very authentic Nordic experience. The sauna interior stays completely dry, and the wood-fired stove continues to work perfectly in any weather.
From lighting the stove, the sauna typically reaches optimal temperature (70-80°C) in 45-60 minutes depending on outside temperature and weather conditions. We provide detailed instructions on building and maintaining the fire. Once at temperature, it's easy to maintain the heat by adding wood every 30-45 minutes. The thermal mass of the wood barrel helps retain heat beautifully.
Yes, we understand plans change! Cancellations made more than 14 days before your booking receive a full refund minus the deposit. Cancellations between 7-14 days receive a 50% refund. Unfortunately, cancellations within 7 days cannot be refunded. However, you can reschedule free of charge with 7 days notice (Full Day and Weekend packages) or transfer your booking to someone else anytime.
Your safety and hygiene are paramount. After each hire, we thoroughly clean and sanitize the entire sauna interior with eco-friendly, food-safe cleaning products. All benches, walls, and surfaces are wiped down and disinfected. The sauna is then aired out completely before the next booking. We maintain the highest standards of cleanliness - you can be confident you're getting a spotless, fresh sauna experience.
We provide a 24/7 support hotline for all hires. If you experience any issues - whether it's difficulty lighting the fire, temperature concerns, or any equipment problems - just call or WhatsApp us and we'll talk you through it or come out if needed. In the rare event of a breakdown, we offer a full refund or immediate replacement. Your experience is our priority, and we're always here to help.
We carry comprehensive £5M public liability insurance covering all our sauna hires. This protects you and your guests. All our equipment is PAT tested, safety certified, and meets UK fire safety regulations. Each hire includes full safety equipment (fire extinguisher, carbon monoxide detector, first aid kit). We take safety seriously and ensure you're fully covered.
